We need to decide on whether the panel is simply a group reacting to the keynote presentation OR or whether the panel is presenting on a specific topic entirely. Let's decide on this by June 9, Tues.
Keynote: we're still awaiting confirm from Peter Hernon if he's available or interested.

My feeling is that the panel discussion ought to address a specific topic since reacting to the keynote doesn't leave much room for advance preparation. As far as topics go, I'd suggest a general discussion about what is unique or significant about so-called "next generation" librarians and where do people see them leading academic libraries in the 21st century.

Excellent!! i agree. Unless we hear otherwise from the group, let's go with this topic for the panel.
Now, who do we select for panelists? Marie Radford from Rutgers recently gave presentation at METRO about genex and boomer librarian communications. maybe her with two CUNY librarians representing the generational viewpts?

I agree that the panel should have a specific topic. Marie Radford sounds good, Brian. As far as the other panelists, do we want just CUNY librarians or should we cast a wider net? BTW - did you all notice that ACRL NY is doing a shockingly similar thing for their symposium in December?
A wider net would be good. I was surprised by the similarity of the topic that ACRL is doing. But I think that we're offering something more focused. And, we're first. Any suggestions for other panelists?? Maybe Valeda Dent, AUL at Rutgers (she's a genexer administrator and I know has interesting observations about the generational issue)
This might be a silly idea but would it be completely inappropriate to recruit panelists the same way we recruit posters? ... particularly if we want to use in-house talent ... maybe we could send a call out over CULIBS asking people to write a short (1-2 paragraph) response to our panel topic and then invite the best responses to join the panel
(or would that make us look desperate?)

joe, that is briiliant!! would you consider this hybrid:
invite marie radford as panelist/moderator, and have the other panelists (2-3) be selected from the CULIBS call?
~brian
Do we think it would be worthwhile to try for a CUNY person on the panel? Are we having only 3 people and a moderator?
Jane
yes--Joe's suggestion to call for panelists via CULIBS is for CUNY person(s). I think this would be very valuable--to make the session more relevant to our supporters
I think that 3 + moderator will give all enough time to present and talk.
